Emil Ackerman leads the development and implementation of knowledge management and data utilization strategy for the Finland’s biggest wellbeing services county – Pirkanmaa, with approximately 20,000 employees. In the past, Emil has worked as a knowledge architect in Pirkanmaa Hospital District and as the CEO in a data analytics company. Emil is also the chairman of the board in a Finnish knowledge management association ‘Tietojohtamisen verkosto ry’, which focuses on social and health care sector.

 

Dr. Ann Aerts 

Head, Novartis Foundation (Switzerland)

Dr. Ann Aerts Ann is Head of the Novartis Foundation, an organization committed to transform the health of low-income populations, by leveraging the power of data, digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI) to reimagine health and care around the world. Ann holds a Degree in Medicine, a Masters in Public Health from the University of Leuven, Belgium, and a Degree in Tropical Medicine from the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp, Belgium. Passionate about improving population health through data, digital and AI, Ann chairs the Broadband Commission for Sustainable Development Working Group on Digital and AI in Health and is a member the Philips Foundation Board. Ann served as a member of the US NASEM Committee on Improving the Quality of Health Care Globally and on the US NAM Commission on Healthy Longevity. She was named one of the top 50 innovators in 2020 by the World Summit AI community.

Denise Anderson

President and CEO, Health-ISAC (USA)

Health-ISAC is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting the global health sector from physical and cyber threats. Denise currently serves as Chair of the National Council of ISACs, sits on the Board of Directors for the Global Resilience Federation, is on the Executive Committee for the Health and Public Health Sector Coordinating Council Cyber Working Group and participates in several industry groups and initiatives. She has served on the Board and as Officer and President of an international credit association and has spoken at events worldwide. Denise was an EMT (B), Firefighter I/II and Instructor I/II for twenty years. She was an EMT evaluator, and also an Adjunct Instructor at the Fire and Rescue Academy in Fairfax County, Virginia for ten years. She is a graduate of the Executive Leaders Program at the Naval Postgraduate School Center for Homeland Defense and Security.

 

Prof. Shafi Ahmed

Professor Shafi Ahmed is a multi-award winning cancer surgeon, teacher, futurist, innovator and entrepreneur. He is faculty at Harvard University and Singularity University where he teaches on innovation and health. He has delivered over 250 keynotes in 30 countries and 3 TEDx talks. He works with governments, universities and global blue chip companies on the digital transformation of healthcare and medical education. He is an advisor to DOH Abu Dhabi for health technology and innovation. He is a member of the NHS assembly and was granted The Future NHS award by members of parliament.

Timo Alalääkkölä

Manager, Testing and Innovations, Oulu University Hospital – AICCELERATE partner (Finland)

He is developing public-private collaboration models for healthcare sector and managing the OuluHealth Labs innovation, testing and development platform. Timo has a long experience in IT related research, development and innovation projects since 2004. He started his professional career at Nokia where he was responsible of R&D related innovation procurement management. Since 2013 Timo has been working in the health and life science sector. His current responsibilities include operating the OYS TestLab and participation to various development projects at OYS, including Future Hospital 2030 program. His most recent project AICCELERATE aims to develop an adaptable AI-based toolset for a variety of clinical use cases. The project started in 2021 and its pilot cases will focus on patient-centric digital care pathways and on optimizing patient flow management. Timo is currently working towards Ph.D. in University of Oulu Business School where he is researching health innovation networks from international business perspective.

Dr. Charles Alessi is chief clinical officer of editohealth, a content creation agency whose ambition is to stimulate digital health adoption around the world by creating engaging content, facilitating peer to peer sharing of best practices, and more efficiently matchmaking buyers, procurers, investors and suppliers. Cristina Andersson

Entrepreneur, Founder, Author and Speaker in Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (Finland)

Cristina Andersson is an entrepreneur and management consultant. Cristina has worked with artificial intelligence and robotics since 2011, as an expert in different EU and national organizations as well as with several companies. She is a member of the steering group of the Finnish National Artificial Intelligence 4.0 program led by the Ministry of Employment and the Economy. Prof. Joao Apostolo

John Banghart, Senior Director of Cybersecurity Services, Health-ISAC (USA)

John Banghart leverages his significant federal government and private sector experience in cybersecurity to navigate issues related to risk management, government policy, standards and regulatory compliance, and incident management. He has successfully led efforts to address significant and high-profile cybersecurity issues within major government programs and institutions while facing complex legal, technical, and political circumstances. He is the author of the Health-ISAC Hacking Healthcare newsletter and develops and leads public/private table exercises that bring together the healthcare community to discuss and learn how to respond and recover from cybersecurity attacks.

Prof. Richard Barker

Chairman, Metadvice (United Kingdom)

Prof Barker’s career has spanned therapeutics, diagnostics and medical informatics. His focus is on precision health – the fusion of these 3 fields – to advance healthy lifespan and on transforming the process of medical innovation in response to the future challenges facing health systems worldwide. He conducts research and leads entrepreneurial activity, especially in the applications of artificial intelligence to medical decision-making. He also provides advisory input to biotechnology companies with contributions to healthy longevity. Prior to founding Metadvice, he was Director of the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry from 2004 to 2011, General Manager for IBM Healthcare Solution from 1993 to 1996, and headed the European healthcare practice for McKinsey between 1980 and 1993.

Tom van Benthem, Strategic Policy Advisor, Public Health Department, City of Amsterdam (Netherlands)

Born in 1976, studied at the university of Amsterdam, now a Master in political science. Has worked 5 years at the regional level of the province of Noord-Holland supporting cities in their policy tasks in the field of youth and well being. Now a strategic policy advisor at the public health department of the city of Amsterdam. Advisor to management and politicians on public health, including urban ageing and hiv/aids. Chair of the working groep ageing and wellbeing at Eurocities, an organisation representing cities larger than 250.000 inhabitants in Europe.

Antonia Brown

Chief Nursing Information Officer, Sussex Community Foundation Trust (United Kingdom)

Antonia is Chief Nursing Information Officer at Sussex Community Foundation Trust (UK), and has been working in community services since she qualified as a nurse in 2011. For the past three years she has held digital leadership roles, culminating in her recent appointment as CNIO. Antonia is a Florence Nightingale Foundation Digital Scholar 2021, a mentor for subsequent cohorts and is currently part of the NHS Digital Academy. In 2022, she was given an NHS Digital and Data Award for Dedication to Profession which acknowledged her commitment and contribution to building digital technology in health and social care. Antonia also hosts DigiTell, a Leadership Log podcast.

 

Dr. Stefan Buttigieg

Digital Health and Health Data Consultant (Malta)

Dr. Buttigieg is a Specialist in Public Health Medicine working in the Ministry for Health in Malta, Public Speaker with 50+ public speaking engagements track record and an avid podcaster. He lectures at the University of Malta on the topics of Digital Health, Social Media in Healthcare and Digital Therapeutics. He is the Vice-President of the EUPHA Section on Digital Health and Data and is a WFPHA Governing Council Member. Dr Buttigieg is on a mission to enable Digital Health and Health Data for All ensuring that no one is left behind.

Andy Bleaden

Andy Bleaden works for ECHAlliance as the Communities Director where he has developed and built a large network of over 70+ Global Digital Health Ecosystems, 12 thematic innovation ecosystems and grown a Membership Community of over 900 Health organisations. He has had a long career in both health and social care as well as funding going back over 30 years starting in the mental health field working with mentally disordered offenders, homeless young people, regeneration and economic development and then later in the field of social care, dementia and robotics. Alongside this Andy has been an External Expert for the European Commission since 2013 assessing proposals and reviewing projects. He has worked for the European Institute of Innovation & Technology (EIT) on both Health and Manufacturing programmes. He has assessed proposals and reviewed projects for other funds such as Urban Innovation Actions, Urbact and Innovative Medicines Initiative.

Prof. David Bogataj

Prof. David Bogataj is a Management Science and Economics Professor at Alma Mater Europaea – ECM. He is head of the Department of Systems Engineering and Economics and coordinator of doctoral studies of Social Gerontology. He is a Fellow of the Slovenian Actuarial Society, Head of the Mortality Working Group of the Social Security Sub-committee at the Actuarial Association of Europe (AAE) and Slovenian representative in the Health Forum of International Actuarial Association.

She is now the head of the telemedicine department. Before joining the telemedicine department, she gained experience in the field of the reimbursement of implantable medical devices.

Prof. Enrico Caiani

Enrico G. Caiani (MS 1996, PhD 2000) is Associate professor at the Electronics, Information and Bioengineering Dpt., Politecnico di Milano, Italy, where he teaches the classes of “E-health: methods and applications” and “Biomedical Image Processing Laboratory”. Author of >150 papers (IF>450,H-index=32,total citations>9000), and >150 conference proceeding presented in international conferences, he has been and is involved in several Italian, EU, ESA international research projects. His main research interests include e-health solutions in the field of cardiology, persuasive design technology, health geomatics, cardiac signal and image processing, space physiology, regulatory science. Since 2020 he is Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology, where he served as Chair of the e-Cardiology Working Group (16-18), and now (22-24) is member of the Regulatory Affairs Committee on Medical Devices. Since 2016, with the European Commission he is the ESC representative in the eHealth Stakeholders Group, and in the Medical Device Coordination Group- New technologies.

Pablo Gomez Conejo, Executive Director, INTRAS Foundation and President Sivi Cluster (Spain)

Graduated in International Business Administration, he combines his position as General Director of the Intras Foundation, where he has worked for 28 years, together with the Presidency of the Cluster of Innovative Solutions for Independent Living (SIVI) as well as the Presidency of Huscie Europe and as Associate member of the European Platform for Rehabilitation. Megan Coder

Chief Policy Officer, Digital Therapeutics Alliance

 Megan Coder, PharmD, MBA, is Chief Policy Officer of the Digital Therapeutics Alliance (DTA), an international non-profit trade association of industry leaders and stakeholders dedicated to improving clinical and health economic outcomes through the use of high quality, evidence-based digital therapeutics (DTx). Megan founded DTA in 2017 and remains instrumental in developing the foundations for this quickly evolving industry. She leads DTA’s efforts related to thought leadership, global policy, international standard development, and the Alliance’s DTx Value Assessment & Integration Guide.

Trained as a pharmacist, Megan graduated from the University of Wisconsin—Madison and completed an Executive Residency in Association Management & Leadership with the American Pharmacists Association Foundation. Prior to DTA, Megan worked with Voluntis, Iodine, the Pharmaceutical Care Management Association, and the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board.

Paula Currás

She has worked in the technological development of innovation projects in the field of bioengineering, as well as in national and European R&D projects. Currently, she is working as project manager for three European projects: GATEKEEPER, ODIN and SusFE.

Dr. Annelene Dahl

Chief Scientific Officer, Simli AS (Norway)

Dr. Annelene Dahl is the co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer at Simli. She is a Neuroscientist by training, having completed a Masters degree at Oxford University (UK) and a PhD at the Kavli Institute for Systems Neuroscience in Trondheim (Norway), where her research focussed on the Hippocampus, a part of the brain involved in anxiety regulation, memory formation and navigation. In Simli she is responsible for ensuring that the product is clinically and scientifically sound. This includes using insights from psychology and neuroscience to develop situations that are optimally challenging for users, and also designing and overseeing studies to show the effectiveness of the product.

Adriana Díaz Martín-Zamorano

She works directly with ECHAlliance members and ecosystems to bring them on board and promote them as well as to increase the connections between our existing members and ecosystems and create new and exciting content for them. Jhonatan Bringas Dimitriades, MD is a Medical Doctor and executive who works with technologists, developers, medical professionals, and patients to deliver digital and technical solutions to enhance the diagnosis, treatment, recovery, and quality of life of patients around the globe. Jhonatan believes in the democratization and digitalization of medicine. Dr. Bringas has worked in the implementation of medical technologies in some of the top medical centers worldwide. His work related to the medical implementation of technologies, digital health, and innovation has been featured in written and spoken media. Jhonatan is one of the co-Founders of Lapsi Health, a Digital Health startup that is developing Digital Biomarkers for multiple usages in Medicine, he is also the CEO of JBD HealthCare, a global consultancy firm on medical technology development, implementation, and digital transformation of medical organizations. Jane Dwelly

Vice President at CHIME

Jane directs CHIME’s international activities including; building its education and accreditation offer, extending its reach to new professional groups, and building strategic partnerships with in-country organisations. Prior to joining the CHIME team, Jane spent 16 years working at the highest level in UK health policy. She was Chief Press Officer at the Department of Health and led all communication and engagement for Lord Ara Darzi’s NHS Next Stage Review, which established quality as a guiding principle of NHS reform. Building on this Jane was Head of Communications for Professor Sir Bruce Keogh in his role as the inaugural NHS Medical Director. During this time, she worked with professional bodies to establish the publication of surgical outcomes data. Following the Health and Social Care Act 2012, Jane moved to the newly created NHS England as a Deputy Director and set up the communications function for the new organisation. Thereafter, Jane moved into a Head of Innovation role to establish digital and IT work programmes in the new NHS architecture. Jane spent the first seven years of her career working as a financial journalist for Bloomberg News which included foreign assignments in South Africa and to the World Economic Forum in Davos. In May 2021 was appointed as a Trustee of the Florence Nightingale Museum in London.

Sergio Ferreira

Sergio is a Senior Innovation Advisor at Norway Health Tech, where he brings a wealth of knowledge to train and advise SMEs in bringing innovation to the market. He plays a core role in building competence and capacity of its SMEs, providing strategic advice on access to finance (public and private capital), international scaling, IP protection, regulatory issues, resilience and enjoying the ride. Since 2005 he has worked for an industry association and for the European Commission in Brussels, mostly managing EU grants to projects bringing innovative technology to market or supporting companies in realizing competitive edges on a variety of sectors. Sergio is an Engineer and an MBA with a passion for innovation and the development of technology to improve people’s and our planet’s health. Dr. Laura Fiorini

Dr. Laura Fiorini (F) is Assistant Professor at the University of Florence. She received the Master Degree (with honours) in BioMedical Engineering at University of Pisa on April 2012 and received the PhD in Biorobotics (cum laude) from the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna in February 2016. From 2016 to 2020 she was a post-doc at the BioRobotics Institute of Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna. From 2020 to 2022 she was a post-doc at the Department of Industrial Engineering of University of Florence. She was a visiting researcher at the Bristol Robotics Laboratory, UK. Her research field are Social robotics, and Activity Recognition system to prevent, support and enhance the quality of life of senior citizens. She is the coordinator of the Italian pilot of Pharaon Project, she was involved in various European and National projects, i.e. Robot-Era, AALIANCE2, ACCRA, SI-ROBOTICS, FIT4MEDROB.

Astrid Galdeano

Diagnosed at the age of 11 with a severe Crohn’s disease, I had to change treatments, consult in several hospitals, and also undergo surgery in the last ten years. It is through these experiences that I was able to see and understand some of the problems of the healthcare system.

Dr. Katariina Gehrmann

Katariina Gehrmann, née Silander, MD (specialization: Public Health), MSc (BA and Econ.), PhD (healthcare operations management), is the current Head of Digital and Innovation services at the Children and Adolescents department in HUS, Helsinki University Hospital. She leads a group of experts from different backgrounds working together to improve research and innovation within children and adolescents, including e.g. the Clinical trial unit and Data lake team. She leads and participates in numerous projects, including VoiCes (Value of including the Children Experience for improving their rightS during hospitalization), in which she is the HUS lead. Previously, she has worked in both research and consulting and has worked in Europe and the Middle East in international consulting projects. She also has experience as a practicing general physician both in the public and private sector.

Roberta Gilardi has more than 25 years of extensive experience in Innovation, Innovation Management, and Consulting. 15 years of experience in the Italian Startup Ecosystem (mainly early stage) designing incubation and acceleration programs for companies and institutions; she has high-profile skills and experience in Open Innovation and has specific expertise in digital transformation, and innovation ecosystems in health and services. Prof. Robbert Gobbens

Prof Health and Well-being of Frail Elderly, Inholland University of Applied Sciences (The Netherlands)

Prof. Robbert J.J. Gobbens is a nurse and researcher Health and Well-being of frail elderly at Inholland University of Applied Sciences and the Zonnehuisgroep Amstelland (a healthcare organization for elderly) in the Netherlands. In addition, he is professor at Tranzo, Tilburg University in the Netherlands and visiting professor at the University of Antwerp, Belgium. He has been involved in research on frail older people since 2005 and has published a large number of international scientific articles on frailty. He has developed the Tilburg Frailty Indicator (TFI), a self-report questionnaire for assessing frailty. He is also engaged in implementing Learning and Innovation Networks (LINs) in institutions providing care for elderly. Gobbens is Associate Editor of Archives of Gerontology and Geriatrics, BMC Geriatrics and Frontiers in Medicine, section Geriatric Medicine. From 2019 he is chair of the Department Geriatrics and Gerontology of V&VN, the Dutch national organization for nurses.

Michael Goldstrom

A Juilliard-trained actor and certified Tiny Habit Coach, I possess two decades of experience in professional performance and behavior change. My educational background includes a Diploma in Acting from Juilliard and the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, along with a B.A. in Art History and Psychology from Columbia University. An adult ADHD diagnosis led me to found GetMotivatedBuddies, a platform aiding thousands in mental and physical health improvement through sustainable lifestyle changes, peer partnerships, and group challenges. We’ve pioneered the Accountability Score, predicting adherence to behavioral changes and goal alignment. In addition to moderating the 175K subscriber-strong Get Motivated Buddies subreddit, I’m also involved in the Columbia Venture Community Impact Program, the NCCIH External Working Group for Whole Person Health Research, and serve on the board of the Columbia Founders Community.

Professor David J Lowe is Clinical Director of the Scottish Health and Industry Partnership (SHIP), Emergency Consultant at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Glasgow and West of Scotland Test Bed Lead – an initiative which brings together six health Boards and individuals from eHealth, clinical care, research and development to streamline the innovation process across health and social care. David has significant experience of creating the infrastructure and conditions to develop innovative devices, services and solutions with a range of industry and academic partners both UK and worldwide. He leads on range of projects including trauma for the STN (thetraumaapp.com), Dynamic COPD (support.nhscopd.scot) and OPERA (early diagnostic heart failure utilising AI). Such projects focus on developing AI/ML clinical decision support by embedding a data driven approach combined with patient co-management into clinical care pathways.

Friedrich Lämmel

Friedrich Lämmel is the CEO of Thryve – Europes leading provider for continous health data from wearables, medical devices and other sources. Thryve’s technology enables digital health services, insurers and care providers to access data of more then 300 data sources to get a better understanding of their users’ individual health. Prior to Thryve, he helped setup bespoke eCommerce solutions for multinational corporates from Retail, Fashion, Telecommunications and Entertainment. As a studied economist with a focus on entrepreneurship and international business relations, he worked and lived in several countries in Europe and Latin America.
